23 years ago, my husband and I had our first thanksgiving, away from the family. I didnt even buy a turkey, I had paid our rent a week early and as an incentive, we received a free, 25 lb turkey.

I didnt have any big baking pans and all I could remember from watching my grandma make turkey, was foil....lots of foil. So I took out the only pan I had, a cookie sheet, and proceeded to wrap the turkey in foil, like a giant baked potato.

Then, because what could happen to a giant baking potato that had to be in the oven several hours, we left the house to go to a friends and "hang out".

About an hour before it was to be done, I came back home alone found my apartment engulfed in smoke and the smoke alarm going off. Of course the turkey had dripped all over the place and created a ton of smoke. The good news was the turkey was delicious, but we had to eat it on the porch :-)

You read my mind. My mom just gave me a tutorial on roasting chicken. I never needed to do it before for a single person's meal. Hmmm I don't have any funny Thanksgiving stories. Every time I think of Thanksgiving I always think of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer ends up basting himself with butter and they show a clip of him as a turkey.
