When I shared my Roasted Turkey and Pan Gravy I mentioned that I had never made a turkey before. Well, my experience with cranberry sauce is the jellied kind out of can. At our Thanksgiving dinners, the cranberry sauce would take a back seat to stars like the Turkey and the Pumpkin Pie. I have memories of opening the can and plopping the jellied sauce onto a platter. Not very appetizing. So this year it was time to make my own and without all the extra carbs. I thought orange would be a nice sweet accent to the tart cranberries sauce. This sauce was easy to throw together and it didn’t take very long to make.
Did you ever eat the canned cranberry sauce? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below. 🙂
Low Carb Cranberry Sauce
12 oz cranberries
1 cup water
1 cup equivalent sweetener (I used Swerve–sweeten to taste)
1 Tbsp orange juice
2 tsp orange zest (zest of about half an orange)
1 cup water
1 cup equivalent sweetener (I used Swerve–sweeten to taste)
1 Tbsp orange juice
2 tsp orange zest (zest of about half an orange)
Bring the water, sweetener, orange juice, and zest to a boil over medium-high heat. Add the cranberries and reduce the heat to medium. Cook for about 7-10 minutes or until the cranberries have popped. Make sure to stir frequently once you add the cranberries.
