One of the biggest differences I’ve notice with using essential oils is with my DIY facial moisturizer (recipe below). My skin was so dry and red when I started using essential oils oils and I wanted to be able to make my own moisturizer. I started with coconut oil as the carrier oil, but eventually found argan oil to be so much more nourishing for my skin. The combination of essential oils and argan oil (plus a nutritious, real food diet) have gotten me so many compliments about me looking youthful….I’ll take it 🙂
Difference Between an Essential Oil and a Carrier Oil
Essential oils contain important protective properties of plants. Essential oil producers distill the oils from wood, bark, leaves, fruit, flowers, stem, roots, flowering tops, gum resin, and fruit rind. Each plant has a unique combination of minerals and elements known as constituents, that make it unique in nature. Each constituent has a different effect on the body. Essential oils are distilled to be highly concentrated and more potent than dried herbs. Essential Oils do not have a greasy feeling and evaporate quickly in the air. Essential oils are diluted with what is known as a carrier oil. Carrier oils have a greasy feeling, unlike essential oils, and also have a shelf life. Examples of carrier oils include coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil, and argan oil. Every essential oil is different so there are specific dilution needs for each essential oil. Always consult reference guides or what is listed on each bottle for proper and specific dilution information. Read over here to know how to make makeup look smooth and how it helps to look skin naturally. Diluting the essential oil calms “hot” oils for use topically to reduce skin sensitivity, creates a time release effect since essential oils evaporate quickly, and is a great way to cover larger areas of the body (such as the legs). It’s important to pay attention to the quality of both the essential oils and the carrier oils. According to www.nubobeauty.com, it’s highly important that you choose essential oils that are organically grown and distilled at low temperatures and pressures to maintain the benefits (like these) and chose carrier oils that are organic and cold pressed.

Ingredients
- 1 - 1.5 tsp pure argan oil (or your preferred carrier oil and I find pure argan oil here)

- 20-40 drops Frankincense Essential Oil (I add some extra to help fade scars and marks on my face)
- 5 drops Thieves Essential Oil (I get my essential oils here)
- 5 drops Melrose Essential Oil
- 15 drops Elemi Essential Oil (Elemi is like the "poor man's Frankincense" so it helps stretch the Frankincense. I get my essential oils here)
- 15 drops Carrot Seed Oil (I add it in the summer for it's natural SPF benefits.)
Instructions
- To a 1/2 oz. dropper bottle (like this one) add the Lavender, Frankincense, Thieves, Melrose, and Elemi essential oils.
- Add the argan oil and tighten the dropper cap on the bottle.
- Shake to combine.
- Apply 4-6 drops for the mixture on your face as a moisturizer. (Note always test a small patch of skin to make sure there are no personal skin sensitivities)
