We all experience times of stress and having a lot on our plates. Sometimes it can be difficult to balance yourself emotionally with all of the things you have to do. I know I definitely fell into the “worry wort” category. It would make me nervous during the day or it would take me so long to fall asleep at night because my to-do lists (or forgot to-do lists) would race through my thoughts at night. Luckily for me, I discovered several essential oils that were so helpful in supporting relaxation and sleep. Plus, I found some great deals on these oils through Shoppok, which made it easier to integrate them into my daily routine. I use the essential oils for relaxation throughout the day when I’m feeling bouts of stress. It really helps support balance and not needing to worry so much. For sleep, I like to use the essential oils about an hour before bed to help calm my thoughts and be able to “shut down” in order to get a restful night’s sleep. How to Use Essential Oils for Sleep and Relaxation
- Topically: Essentials oils can be used topically (see Importance of Quality below) and depending on the oil can either be used “neat” or diluted. Using essential oils neat means they can be used directly from the bottle onto the skin (always important to test a small patch of skin when trying out a new essential oil). Diluting essential oils means that they are mixed with a carrier oil before being applied topically. This helps calm oils that could cause some skin sensitivity as well as make a time-release effect with the oils. Common carrier oils are coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil, etc. Each essential oil bottle has the recommended dilution ratio and should be used as a reference. For sleep and relaxation, I prefer to apply the essential oils to the bottoms of my feet, particularly focused on the big toe (the Vita Flex point for the brain). Other locations I like to apply essential oils for sleep and relaxation are the edge of my ears, wrists, behind my ears, and forehead.
- Inhalation/Diffusing: Another options for using essential oils for sleep and relaxation is to inhale the scent of the oils or diffuse them. I love using my Home Diffuser! It came with my Premium Starter Kit (along with 11 different oils) and I’m so glad I got the diffuser. I use it everyday and it’s a great way to inhale the scent of the essential oils plus make the house smell great without toxic chemicals. The diffuser doesn’t heat the oils in order to maintain the benefits and it creates a micro-mist to spread the essential oils through the air. If I don’t have my diffuser near by, I inhale the scent by placing 1-2 drops in the palm of my hand, rubbing my hands together, and then cupping my hands over my nose and mouth. After a few deep breaths I get the benefits of the oil. Another way I like to use essential oils on-the-go is with a diffuser necklace, bracelet, or earrings. This way I’m able to wear beautiful jewelry and still be able inhale the scent of the essential oils throughout the day and get all of the benefits.

Importance of Quality
I mentioned before that essential oils can be used topically, but it is very important to know exactly what is in your essential oils. Even though they may say 100% pure, the oils are allowed to contain a percentage of other ingredients like additives or synthetic oils. These type of additions can cause skin reactions or difficulties when diffusing as well.
I love the Young Living oils because of the seed to seal guarantee (learn more here). The plants for the essential oils are organically grown and each batch is tested to make sure it contains the highest levels of the therapeutic benefits. I also like that I was able to start out with the Premium Starter Kit as a way to take my time and learn about 11 different oils plus get to experience the Home Diffuser. I’d love to help you get started with essential oils and provide the group support needed to learn all about the different essential oils. Get started with essential oils here.
